By their active participation, ensembles and members of the City of Fairfax Band Association (CFBA) support performing arts in the Fairfax community and in the greater Northern Virginia and Washington DC metropolitan area. Led by talented and experienced musical staff, CFBA ensembles have entertained the citizens of Fairfax, the Commonwealth of Virginia (including Richmond, Yorktown, Orkney Springs, and Fredericksburg), and the Washington, DC metropolitan area for 40 years. The Musicians Representing varying musical backgrounds, ensemble members come together to provide the highest quality wind band music at affordable rates. Performers from all walks of life share the love of music, bringing solid musical experience and background to the organization. The Music Programs are varied and present the best in classical transcriptions, wind band music, military and marches, show tunes, and much more. The band is proud to sponsor new compositions and to showcase new arrangements at every season. Fairfax Band concerts frequently feature exciting and well known guest artists. Ensembles include the nationally renowned City of Fairfax Concert Band, the brand-new Main Street Community Band, the internationally acclaimed German band, Alte Kameraden, the Fairfax Swing Band, the Fairfax Saxophone Quartet, the Potomac Brass Quintet, and the Rebel Run Dixieland Band. The Community The band enriches the musical life of the community by performing at civic festivals, patriotic programs, and commemorative ceremonies. Education The organization supports music education in the schools and community and annually sponsors and conducts a Young Artist Competition, with winners selected from high school senior- and junior-class entrants who play wind and percussion instruments. The Young Artist winner is featured as guest soloist in the City of Fairfax Band April concert and receives a financial award to be applied towards furthering the student's individual music education. |
