During the City of Fairfax Band’s “Legends of the Air” concert on May 13, Fairfax Delegate David Bulova presented a proclamation to the City of Fairfax Band Association commending it for being invited to participate in France’s D-Day commemorative festival in Normandy next month. The resolution, which passed unanimously in both chambers of the General Assembly, recognizes the association for its representation of the Commonwealth and the City of Fairfax in France and offers an expression of admiration for the band’s musical leadership and contributions to cultural life in Virginia.
The “Legends of the Air” concert segued into the band’s final preparations for and participation in the D-Day ceremonies. In addition to commemorating the US Air Force’s 70th anniversary, some of the concert’s musical selections related to the D-Day invasion and the guest conductor, Col Arnald Gabriel (ret.). He was one of the thousands of troops who stormed the beaches on June 6, 1944 and then forged inland fighting to free France.
