MAIN STREET COMMUNITY BAND
The Main Street Community Band, under the direction of Jeff Seffens, has been joyfully entertaining the Fairfax area community for over 15 years. The band’s repertoire includes movie and show tunes, lively marches, seasonal music, and classic Americana. Their concert schedule covers the four seasons at indoor and outdoor venues, and they typically perform free of charge thanks to the generosity of their sponsors. The band has also yielded several small ensembles – a brass quintet, a trombone quartet, and a clarinet quartet – that perform throughout the year.
Interested in Joining the Band?
“Main Street” is open to all woodwind, brass and percussion players 18 years of age or older without audition. Members range from young professionals to retirees, and from former high school players to music educators. All enjoy a friendly, collegial environment which promotes the personal rewards of music-making and continuous learning. Contact personnel@fairfaxband.org for more information about joining the band.

Our Musical Conductor
A Fairfax native, Geoffrey Seffens has been conducting bands in the local area for almost 50 years. Jeff, a graduate of the prestigious Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, taught band music and directed bands in Fairfax County Schools most of his career. He was the premiere conductor of the Main Street Community Band and has been its principal conductor for 15 years. Jeff also organized and concurrently leads the City of Fairfax Band Association’s Honor Flight Band. As a trumpeter, Mr. Seffens has played with the City of Fairfax Band, the National Concert Band of America, the GTEV “Alpenveilchen” German Band, and the Tom Cunningham Orchestra. Seffens served as Chairman and Treasurer for 12 years on the City of Fairfax Commission on the Arts. In 1999, Jeff was named “Outstanding Teacher of the Year” by the Rotary Club of Fairfax. In 2005, Mr. Seffens received the John Mason Arts Achievement Award for outstanding contributions to the arts.
