A native of Pittsburgh, Dr. Dereck Scott is a multi-talented musician skilled in leading high-quality passionate performances. Scott is currently the Music Director for The Cathedral Brass and has served as an Interim Director for the McLean Symphony, Rockville Brass Band, and the Cherry Blossom Brass Band. In each of these ensembles, his work has been described as: “transformative,” “of the highest of artistic merit,” and “significantly contributing to the ensemble’s success.”
As a performer, Scott performs frequently in the DC metro area, and was the Principal Cornet and Soloist for the Rockville Brass Band and a featured performer on The Brass of the Potomac’s album “Firestorm.” Additionally, he is a skilled arranger and composer with more than seventy titles to his name. His work has been performed internationally and across the United States.
Currently, Scott is the Director of Bands at the Flint Hill School in Oakton, Virginia, where he oversees and conducts the band program from grade five through high school.
